Privacy Policy

Side A is a cassette-style music player made by an independent developer. It has no accounts, no ads, and no analytics or tracking. This policy explains exactly what the app touches and the one case where information leaves your device — when you choose to share.
Apple Music
Side A asks your permission to access Apple Music so it can show the song you're currently playing on a cassette and control playback (play, pause, skip, scrub). This happens on your device through Apple's frameworks. We do not collect, store, or transmit your listening history or library. You can revoke this access at any time in your device's Settings.
Information stored on your device
The app keeps a few things locally, on your phone only:
- A short history of recently played songs (title, artist, and length) so you can build tapes from what you've been listening to.
- The mixtapes, custom tapes, and tape labels you create.
- Your app settings and preferences.
This information stays on your device and is not sent to us, unless you choose to share a tape (see below).
Photos you choose
If you pick a photo from your library to use as a custom tape or jewel-case cover, Side A uses only the image you select to create that tape. The app does not browse or read the rest of your photo library. The image stays on your device unless you choose to share the tape it's on.
When you share a tape or song
Sharing is the only time information leaves your device. When you create a share link for a mixtape or a now-playing song, the content you're sharing is uploaded to our servers (hosted on Cloudflare) so the recipient can open it from the link. That content can include:
- The song or track list (titles and artists).
- Your tape name, any liner notes, and the name you optionally add as the sender.
- The cover image you chose for the tape.
Anyone with the link can view what you shared, so please don't include anything private in tape names or notes. If you'd like a shared item removed, email us and we'll take it down.
What we don't do
- No user accounts or sign-ins.
- No advertising and no ad trackers.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- We never sell or rent your information.
Third-party services
Side A relies on a small number of services to work:
- Apple — Apple Music provides playback and album artwork. Your use of Apple Music is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare — hosts playsidea.com and stores shared tapes and song cards. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Children
Side A is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the date at the top of this page.
